Craig Wolfley Bio

The New York State Strength and Power Hall of Fame is honored to induct Craig Wolfley into the class of 2018. Craig grew up in the Buffalo, NY area and was a star athlete in high school. From there, Craig went on to receive a full scholarship from Syracuse University where he started as an offensive linemen. A standout, Craig received almost countless numbers of awards and was named to several All-American Teams as well. In 2000, Craig was selected to Syracuse U’s All-Century Team, an honor given only to the very, very best players from the last one-hundred years. The All-Century Team also included NFL Hall of Famers like Jim Brown and Larry Csonka. That’s pretty good company to keep! Unbelievably, it got even better. Drafted in 1980 by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Craig Wolfley began an NFL career that spanned twelve seasons and was even selected to the Steeler’s All-Century Team as well.

Now a color commentator for the organization, Craig continues his career as a Steeler. In terms of Craig’s strength and power credentials, he placed a phenomenal 5th at the 1981 World’s Strongest Man Competition and an impressive 4th at the NFL Strongest Player Contest as well. 2018 Strength and Power Hall of Fame Inductee Craig Wolfley contested in powerlifting but the rigors of the NFL pulled him away from the competitive lifting world. If he had not chosen to play in the NFL, he would certainly have gone on to do even more incredible things in the strength-sports world. Craig is also a martial arts instructor and actually placed second at the first ever sumo wrestling tournament in North America. All of these accomplishments are simply incredible and certainly worthy of great applause, but if you read the requirements for induction into the Hall of Fame, you will note that one of them focuses on leadership and character.

No one has done a better job of meeting these criteria than Craig Wolfley. When you have been trained by fellow hall of famer and world champion Don Reinhoudt like Craig has, becoming a champion and using the perks that come with it to help others go hand in hand. As expected, Craig credits Don for influencing and directing him to a path of success and now he gets to do the same for others. Brother Craig is a true servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and goes out of his way to be a source of strength for those in need. Craig takes part in a number of charity functions including a very lengthy walk for the homeless. He also gives freely to the Pittsburgh based Light of Rescue Mission. I’m not quite sure who said the following, but it’s the message that counts the most anyway. “The best measure of a man is not what he acquires. The best measure of a man is what he gives,” and brother Craig Wolfley does that in abundance. The selection committee is honored to induct Craig Wolfley into the New York State Strength and Power Hall of Fame!
